CALGARY, ALBERTA (Jan. 13, 2020) – Global business information provider IHS Markit (NYSE: INFO), announced today it now enables its customers to purchase processed volumes of Canadian 2D and 3D seismic data directly from within AccuMap™, the market-leading geologic interpretation platform in Canada.
The enhanced functionality comes following a successful collaboration with Katalyst Data Management, a global sub-surface data management company which provides brokerage services and makes it possible for IHS Markit customers to work more accurately, and more quickly and efficiently from within AccuMap—their preferred interpretation platform.
“AccuMap customers have long had access to seismic locational data (MapIt™) within the application, so they knew where seismic data was available in terms of their areas of interest, but had to exit AccuMap and contact a broker to purchase the data to begin their interpretation,” said Merri Lloyd, product director for AccuSuite at IHS Markit. “By collaborating with Katalyst, we’ve created a buy-on-demand service that enables customers to quickly access and purchase the seismic data they need from within AccuMap. It’s a convenience for our mutual customers and allows them to reduce the time to interpretation.”
The latest AccuMap upgrade complements the existing capabilities customers rely on daily, including the IHS Markit Seismic Survey Locations database, which is the most complete locational database available. It combines power and flexibility with dynamic data layers showing 100% available seismic location data and is currently comprised of more than 500,000 2D and 3D surveys equating to 4.7M linear kilometers and over 440,000 square kilometers of data. Detailed attribute information includes vintage, fold, source, shot and group intervals, spread geometry and more.
The Seismic Survey Locations dataset consists of data sourced from public government agencies, directly from oil companies, and from companies that manage seismic data. The dataset contains the most historical information of any seismic offering, and IHS Markit manually performs additional quality assurance to correct any inconsistencies or reported errors.
“Using the IHS Markit Seismic Survey Location Data, AccuMap customers can query seismic location coverage in their area of interest, view all available lines, choose lines for quality inspection and then e-mail seismic plats (boundary maps, drawn to scale, of a piece of land with seismic data parameters overlaid, so geologists can order exact seismic data for that location) from AccuMap to Katalyst for purchase,” Lloyd said. “The Katalyst coverage is extremely robust and enabling quick access to their datasets allows our customers to make informed decisions about farm-in or farm-out deals, to look at reprocessing existing seismic data rather than acquiring new data, or to qualify trade properties, that fit their merger and acquisition strategy.”
