Ohio Becomes the Most Recent State to Approve the Use of SoftSound(TM) Absorptive Noise Wall Panels on Highways and Roads

Midland, VA / ACCESSWIRE / October 28, 2014 / Smith-Midland Corporation's (OTCQB: SMID), subsidiary Easi-Set Worldwide's sound-absorptive noise wall product, SoftSound(TM), is gaining both state and provincial approvals as the product becomes more widely known for its unique qualities and ease of use.

Recently approved for use by the state of Ohio, SoftSound is a porous, lightweight, wood chip-based cementitious material that is applied to structural precast concrete noise wall panels. The product, which can be manufactured using integral color or stained after the noise wall panels are cast (or after installation), resists rot, decay, mildew, mold, insect nesting, vermin, termites, and combustion.

"Ohio has been extremely active with its noise wall program, and SoftSound's predictability of performance, consistency of appearance, and product longevity is a perfect fit for that program," said Moffette Tharpe, Managing Director for Easi-Set Worldwide, SoftSound's developer and licensor. "SoftSound's Quality Assurance and Production Control program provides complete traceability of materials and processes, thereby avoiding the risks historically associated with other cementitious sound-absorptive products."

Produced under the industry's most stringent Quality Assurance guidelines, SoftSound has been tested extensively and meets or exceeds all requirements for states and provinces that specify sound-absorptive noise walls. It has been formally approved by 11 transportation agencies, with approvals in the balance of the states specifying sound absorptive noise walls expected in short order.

An environmentally friendly product that is durable under all weather conditions, SoftSound has been installed in projects totaling over 1 million square feet. In Southeastern Virginia, for example, nearly 100,000 square feet (506 panels) of SoftSound was installed. This project incorporated custom murals of sand dunes, seagulls, trees, and deer interspersed throughout the vertical-ribbed finish wall. Currently, SoftSound is being used to mitigate noise from the Dulles Connector Road near residential neighborhoods in Virginia. The product was also used effectively in a Virginia Beach neighborhood, where 8-foot-high panels were designed to match the brick and mortar finish of a nearby municipal center.
